Double plates

The jumping bite appliance (double plates) is a functional appliance, because the forces transferred to the maxilla and mandible are only produced by the masticatory muscles. By the incorporation of a memory screw in the maxilla, a fast transverse bodily expansion can be achived especially in young patients without a rapid maxillary expansion being necessary. The children can only be treated effectively when they get such an appliance early.

The jumping bite appliance has lower plate and an upper plate. In the lower plate there is a mandibular expansion screw with a mounting pattern for that adjustment of an inclined plane. On the upper plate is also an expansion screw with bar, which is forcing the retruded mandible forward to obtain normal occlusion and normal bite. In the same time of protruding the lower jaw in Class I, it is possible to expand lower jaw and upper jaw.
