Braces

Metal braces

Stainless steel fixed appliances (braces) are comprised of small stainless steel squares (“brackets”) that are bonded with dental adhesive directly to the enamel surfaces of the teeth. Today’s metal braces are smaller, more comfortable and more attractive. The braces alone do not move teeth; they are simply stable guidance mechanisms that allow wires and other accoutrements to affect the actual tooth movement (wires, chains, elastics, coil springs, and other devices). By placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, braces slowly move teeth to a corrected position.

Wires are also less noticeable than they used to be, and the latest materials move teeth faster with less discomfort to patients. You can choose the color of the ties that hold the wire in brackets.

Treatment time typically ranges from one to three years, depending on the growth of the patient’s mouth and face, and the severity of the problem. Patients grow at different rates and will respond variously to orthodontic treatment.

Ceramic braces

Ceramic braces are an aesthetic alternative to metal braces. These braces are less visible than metal braces, and used mainly by older teenagers and adult patients who have aesthetic concerns. Clear Braces are made from single crystal pure grown sapphire, each crystal is honed and then heat polished into a superbly smooth, incredibly clear, and splendidly strong bracket. At our Studiodent office we frequently use white wires which make treatment more esthetic.

At Studiodent office, we can offer to our patients the most advanced esthetic braces like ICE Inspire and Damon Clear.

ICE crystal-clear braces are the most discreet braces available, regardless of tooth color. Plus, they won’t stain or discolor over time, so you’ll look great throughout your treatment.

Damon Clear is part of the innovative Damon System, which combines tieless brackets and high technology archwires that are clinically proven to move teeth quickly and comfortably with spectacular results. Damon Clear combines the best of traditional clear braces and efficient technology to deliver a discrete treatment experience with results that go beyond straight teeth.

This difference in the color of the brackets really does help to make it less obvious to others that a person is wearing braces, especially at a distance. And that’s why ceramic braces are a very popular treatment option.

Lingual braces

Lingual braces are one treatment alternative available to those patients who are in need of orthodontic treatment but, primarily for cosmetic reasons, are averse to have it. These braces are bonded and hidden on the backside of your teeth making them a great option for those who want “invisible” braces.

The term “lingual braces” refers to a method of orthodontic treatment where the brackets and wires that produce the patient’s tooth realignment are attached to the backside (palate or tongue side) of their teeth, as opposed to the front or cheek side as is the case with traditional dental braces. Lingual braces are specially designed stainless steel appliances that are custom fit to the inside surfaces of the teeth.

The chief advantage of lingual braces lies in the fact that they are non-visible. It can be argued, however, that the efficiency of the lingual braces apparatus is less than that of traditional braces.

Not everyone is a suitable candidate for lingual braces treatment. In general, appropriate candidates will be adults and older teenagers. The patient’s teeth need to be relatively normal sized. Good candidates will have a bite relationship that is accommodating to the presence of lingual braces. If the patient has teeth that overlap excessively (deep vertical overbite) or have an alignment that might produce heavy forces on their orthodontic brackets when they chew or otherwise close their teeth together, lingual braces probably aren’t the best choice. Only an evaluation by an orthodontist can lead to a determination that lingual braces technique is a suitable treatment approach for you.
